Privacy policy
We store what uOwe needs to keep your tab, we keep it in the EU, and we never sell it.
What we store
- Your account: your name, email address, a securely hashed version of your password (never the password itself) and a profile photo if you add one.
- Your groups: group names, who’s in them, and the names you give people who haven’t joined yet.
- Your expenses: what each expense was for, its amount and date, who paid and how it was split, plus the settlements you record.
To keep you signed in, your browser holds two cookies that only our servers can read. Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser and never sent to us.
Where it lives
Your data is stored and processed on servers in the European Union and is protected by the GDPR.
Who can see it
The people in a group see that group’s members, expenses and balances. Nobody outside the group does. We look at your data only when you ask us to help, or when we have to in order to keep uOwe safe or comply with the law.
What we don't do
- We don’t sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We don’t show ads.
- We don’t track you across other websites.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you ask us to delete it, we remove your account and the personal details that go with it.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account yourself under Settings → Account → Delete account, in the app or on the web. How to delete your account explains the steps and what gets deleted.
Can’t sign in? Email hello@uowe.app from the address on your account and we’ll delete your account and data.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. If you’re unhappy with how we handle it, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
